Un-treehugger: A Yacht That Thinks It's An Island

Just when we thought the 80s and Miami Vice were behind us: Take a look at Wally Yachts', WallyIsland, a company that advertises: "Why buy just any luxury yacht when you can own an island?"

Our question exactly. We have to wonder, is this a joke from the makers of National Lampoon's Vacation?

Apparently not. This 325-foot-long monstrosity has been designed "with all the comforts and amenities to live on board full time," says Wally Yacht, a yacht company based in Monaco.

Expected to sell for about $90 million dollars, and ready in about 2 years for sale, WallyIsland will come outfitted with its own private gardens, and a deck large enough for a tennis court or helipad.

Reports ABC news to accompany (what seems like) a paid advertisement for WallyIsland: As Economy Slips, Yacht Sales Skyrocket.

See a promo video done by the company in 2006:

hm...at least it's got a "rooftop garden"...

This reminds me a Julius Verne book titled "The Helix Island". It was about an enormous boat that was meant to be a paradise island for the ultra-rich. The thing is that they had a little army of servants inside, and unrest starts to happen... Read it. Once again, Julius Verne was like a prophet.

I was going to say, maybe living in international waters would relieve the owner (residents?) of paying taxes...but for $90 million, does the owner really worry about taxes anyway? This is silly.

what if you planted vegetables and fruits on that roof top garden?
you could sail the 7 seas for the perfect weather year-round and have plenty of fresh organic food...
while you're at it, maybe get some chickens, too and, keep them in one of those killer Eglus from Omlet.co.uk.
goats.. you got to have a couple of goats as well to make fresh cheese...
you see? a super yacht CAN be green!
lol
