Answer: A) 1970

The idea for an Earth Day came from Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin, who couldn't understand how it was possible that an issue as important as the environment was hardly being discussed in the media, so he created the first Earth Day, on April 22, 1970. An estimated 20 million people nationwide attended festivities that day.

Twas the very day I was conceived ?)~ Then grew up in an earth-bermed, passive solar house (now active - solar PV). No wonder I ended up in the renewable energy and resource conservation biz.

I love Earth Day. It's so important to bring awareness to the plight of our planet. I think this year's celebration is especially significant since more people are paying attention. I loved Earth Hour and celebrated it quietly in front of the fireplace, surrounded by beautiful candles and loving friends. Thank-you for your fabulous reporting.
