Hang Your Folding Bike in Your Closet

Would love to have a bike but keep getting it ripped off and don't think you have space for one in your apartment? First step, get a Strida folding bike (an awesome commuting machine) or other small folding bike. Second, figure out a way to hang your bike in your closet. Hit below the fold for how a chinese restaurant window display led me to an easy $2 solution (including pics and video).

I had been thinking about what kind of hook I might find or create to hang our bikes in our closet as they were taking up a lot of space in our 1 bedroom place. And I happened upon....

So, we found a Chinese cooking supplies place close by and sure enough, they had the hooks for $2 each.

Modified Chicken/Duck Hanging Hook.

So we bought a few and brought them home. With pliers and vice-grips I twisted one of the curved hooks 90 degrees such that the bike would hang nicely perpendicular to the closet bar.

Voila! Now we have a very space efficient way to keep the bikes in the apartment.

Brilliant. I much prefer that to laying my Strida on the ground or resting it against the wall.

I am offended by the respectless pictures of dead animals. Think again before you post pictures like this on a green site like treehugger!

I'm sure that a lot of readers of treehugger are vegetarian/vegan/green people - and i imagine they don't like to see pictures of animals in a chinese shop. (in the newsletter the first thing i see is that picture).

(Btw: You know how they treat animals in china, don't you?)

The idea is nice but not new. Look at all those pans hanging on hooks in the kitchen, in workshops etc.

@Kiwi

It seems in reading the post, that walking by that window of chickens is what inspired Graham's choice of hooks. If his inspiration offends you, maybe you should look at thickening your skin instead of trying to censor him.

And come on! Vegetarian and Vegan organizations are notorious for publishing and circulating photos far worse than this. Get your nose out of your ass.

What a great idea! I would have never thought of hanging the bike.

I keep my strida bike with a kryptonite lock chained in the hallway of the apartment building where I live, and I am always nervous that someone will cut the chain and steal it, as they did with my previous bike.

With this idea, I can bring the bicycle into the apartment, thank you!

I live in San Francisco and in Grant Street (China Town) there is a Chinese hardware store that I bet sells these hooks. They are right across the street from a food store that sells these ducks - which are delicious.

Oh, by the way, my wife of 12 years is vegetarian - I am not - but we get along fine regarding food issues. I do not get 'offended' when I see all sort of vegetables, plants and weeds hanging at the various markets all over this city. To each, its own.

@ Kiwi - if a picture of food hanging from a window offends you, well, get a life, no one else cares.
