Atmospheric Carbon Capture Systems is definitely something for the near future. In Sweden there is high interest for this kind of technology. In one project, a renewable fuel is made from CO2 from the air, together with solar power generated hydrogen. The team behind it recently got funded by the government to make a small-scale application so that domestic users can produce their own fuel:
