Answer: A) Rhode Island

It turns out that not only is Rhode Island the smallest state in the nation, it also has the lowest per-capita energy consumption. This is due to several factors: electricity consumption is low thanks to mild summers, high electricity prices, and the fact that very few homes use electricity for space heating. Finally, most homes in Rhode Island use natural gas for heating, which is expensive and therefore incentivizes efficiency and conservation.

This is a pretty useless poll unless you count energy consumption from all sources including gas, oil, propane, etc. Electricity is just part of the equation...

Wow! For being such a big state I am proud to say that Wyoming has the lowest per-capita energy consumption! All states should be like Wyoming! Make a difference and do not use a big amount of energy in your life!

jump to top Alexis says:

Hmm... Interesting. I actually thought that *most* homes used gas. And we're all getting the quiz wrong. O_o

jump to top Jikki says:

If you look at this chart from 2005, you'll find that California, New York, and Rhode Island are the lowest three energy users per capita, and Wyoming is second to highest, after Alaska.

If you think about it, it is utterly terrifying that 992 people from TreeHugger have voted, and Wyoming, the second worst state, has over twice the votes of New York.

If every American consumed as much energy as Wyoming, we would be in an even worse situation with regards to global warming.
