Wholemato Organic Agave Ketchup
by Jasmin Malik Chua, Jersey City, USA on 03.31.08

Wholemato is a whole new way of looking at ketchup. Sweetened with plant-derived agave nectar, rather than the typical corn syrup, the certified-organic condiment also has a glycemic index of 7, meaning that you won't experience sudden spikes in your blood sugar. In fact, the ketchup is certified low glycemic by the Glycemic Research Institute of Washingon D.C., making it suitable for diabetics.
In our taste tests, we found the ketchup to be the perfect marriage of sweet and tangy spices, and one reviewer commented that it wasn't as oily or salty as most of the ketchups he's dipped into in the past. You can find Wholemato products sold at Whole Foods Markets and other retailers across the United States, with each 13-ounce bottle retailing for around $4.99.

Oh. Pretty interesting... Do you have any idea when this product will be available in Canada?
"Agave nectar" is a very unhealthy sweetener and should be avoided. It's almost exclusively fructose, which is why it has a low glycemic index. The problem is, large amounts of fructose cause insulin resistance and are converted rapidly to fat in the liver. It's basically high-fructose corn syrup on crack, marketed as a health food.
I'm game for trying it! Death to the HFCS!!!!!
Oh it just gets better! I need to buy some of this. The ingredients are amazing! It seems like everyone is getting in on this "health" craze! Maybe I should create a product, oh wait..I am!
This product may not be as great as it first sounds. Corn syrup is an easily renewable food product , Corn is grown within a year. Agave comes from a slow growing desert plant which can be over harvested. Besides who uses more that a few tbsp of catsup at a time? Not much corn syrup at one time to spike blood sugar levels
How much ketchup do they think people ingest?
If you are only consuming a few tablespoons of anything with 15 Cal/tbsp, the glycemic load is insignificant.
They should focus more on convincing people to not habitually consume 3,000 Cal/day, which is the true cause of the "diabesity epidemic".
Heinz gets rich off of the ketchup we throw away, which is usually much more than we actually eat.
Of all the foods we eat containing high fructose corn syrup, I think a condiment like ketchup is the last thing to worry about.
I want to share a great place where I always shop for organic and gluten free products. Whole And Natural. They have lots of great stuff including organic ketchup.
