Energy Wasting Day: It's Easy to Make a Difference

Business & Politics (news)

With Buy Nothing Day, Earth Day, and now Earth Hour, there can be an awful lot of dates to remember. Luckily the organizers of Energy Wasting Day have chosen to hold their event on April the 1st, so it should be relatively easy for us all to remember to get involved.

“Wasting energy isn’t about paying, it’s more, just about… wasting energy.”

Classic.

This is very interesting and, if it weren't a joke, could actually produce some positive reactions. If people were to collectively consume incredible amounts of power simultaneously, the draw on the electrical grid would presumably be too much to handle. Perhaps by orchastrating a seemingly unenvironmental feat, we can demostrate to policy makers the need to have an effective energy policy to both meet basic needs AND reduce our environmental impact. This could also demonstrate the need for smaller scale, localized power facilities that work for individual communities, such as solar and wind farms.

On the chance that not enough people participated, however, we would just consume power with no result, so its all or nothin folks.
