The Go Green Initiative's School of the Week: Walnut Grove Elementary in Pleasanton, CA!

In terrific news, this week’s Go Green Initiative School of the Week became the first solar school in California just last week when Principal Bill Radulovich flipped the switch and turned on the solar energy! Perhaps not surprisingly, it's just the latest step they've taken as the folks at Walnut Grove Elementary School in Pleasanton, California have been transforming their campus from a "gardening, composting, recycling" school to one that's focused on saving energy while helping a school around the world do the same.

It turns out their Roots and Shoots club, spearheaded by Kat Peters has teamed up with Hands Across the Water, another group on campus organized by the school counselor, Sharon Tangney. Now both groups are selling CFL light bulbs to benefit a school in Liberia. The goal of is to raise $5000 to help the Liberian school buy solar ovens, which are needed to boil water to combat dysentery and reduce the amount of trees used for wood burning stoves. No doubt it will improve the lives of the kids in Liberia while helping to combat global warming at the same time.

Congrats to everyone at Walnut Grove Elementary in Pleasanton, California. You’re making an incredible difference!

This is Awesome! I am super happy for the kids that go to this school, and the the great education they are receiving on the environment. This school is a role model for the rest of the world. Thanks for sharing.

Congratulations Pleasanton! It's great to think these kids are learning the meaning of "going green".
