Achieving Density in Prefabricated Housing
by Lloyd Alter, Toronto
on 02.29.08

One of the problems with modern prefabricated housing is the challenge of achieving greater densities and adapting to more urban milieus. Tim Pyne is trying it with his M-Hotel; Andrew Maynard proposed his Corb V2.0;; Now, in the spirit of Bernard Rudofsky's "Architecture without Architects" we present the above, which our source at ::Adaptive Reuse says is "racing through the blogosphere faster than headlice through a kindergarten." We note that it has a shipping container and a wind turbine, hitting all the current trends. UPDATE: It is a stage set.
We learn from our commenters and Adaptive Reuse that it
"is actually a set for the outdoor Theater het Amsterdam Bos. It seems so obvious in retrospect. It was designed by Catherina Scholten for the 2005 production of Anton Chekhov’s Ivanov, his early play about a disillusioned young intellectual - surprise surprise - not unlike Chekhov himself - surprise surprise - who ultimately commits suicide - surprise surprise."

I can't help it. Those colorful trailers stacked up like that is so retro-looking, I just love it. Like a trailer-treehouse.
i just got this pic as an email with the headline 'redneck mansion; seriously, less than an hour before i saw this article.
I like it and think it's pretty cute. Of course, I'm from West Texas so you can't take my judgement seriously.
yes!
Do want.
I can see this being so amazing, granted the insides are eco furnished and the structural stability is such that it will withstand an onslaught of raptors and/or zombies.
If nothing else, they deserve an award for the coolest trailer park... although I am left wondering just how far that grey one at the top would go in a tornado.
This is in Amsterdam, it was a decor for an open air theatershow. It is just decor, nothing else.
The idea is great though.
If I am not mistaken this was the stage for a theater play in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. (Actually I am quite sure, since I have seen the play.)
The play was Ivanov by Tsjechov and it was in the summer of 2005. The theater group is called 'Theater het amsterdamse bos'. They build really great stages, hold great plays, and the entrance fee is very low (it was free in 2005)
Jeroen Harkes is right and thanks to his info we've tracked down more about it, check back on our blog http://adaptivereuse.net
