Nokia Morph Cellphone Would Let You Bend and Fold to Your Heart's Content

nokia morph phone

Having adopted a noticeably greener tack - unveiling both the Remade and Evolve 3110 phones within the past 3 months - Nokia is pushing the envelope with a new nanotechnology concept to be launched alongside MoMA's "Design and the Elastic Mind" exhibition - the Morph. A joint collaboration between the Nokia Research Center and the University of Cambridge, it promises to provide a versatile user experience: its flexible materials would allow you to stretch and bend it to your heart's content, and its self-cleaning surfaces would help make upkeep much easier.

Of course, this futuristic technology comes with its caveats: Nokia and University of Cambridge officials predicted that certain elements of the Morph might be available to integrate into phones within 7 and "initially only at the high-end." In other words, don't hold your breath.

Still, if you're in the NYC area and have been itching to visit MoMA, it's certainly worth a look - and hopefully will be a sign of things to come in future handhelds.

As neat as this phone might be, I don't see much of a link to ecological issues. Why is this even on Treehugger?

because it is green

'cause it is supposed to be charged with solar energy (using "nanowire grass" - see at 2:10)

Give. Me.
Now.

No, seriously, that's all I've got. I want that so bad I can taste it. And it would be green because of both space and [by the looks of it] energy-saving aspects [also, if you can wear it as a bracelet and not have to stick it in your purse, it could easily and conveniently become solar-powered], not to mention the resources that would not be wasted from the nanotechnology aspect.

Do. Want!

Completely mind boggling!

Who cares?

This is just lame FX that would be standard in any domestic setting of a sci-fi movie. There are no plans to build this.

I saw a movie where you could change your hair color just by shaking your head; ooooh, nano particles! oooh! conceptual; look what I made on my special effects computer!

So the future is my phone smelling my apple, and being able to make my bracelet match my bag.
Nanotech is JUST what the world needs!!!?

jump to top MY says:

I'm not entirely sold on nanotechnology, but this concept does have some interesting green ideas.

It looks like it could have the functionality of a lot of different devices, so you would only have to buy one, instead of many. It's strong and it doesn't get dirty. That means it could potentially last longer. Also the ability to "assign new wallpaper" like they show in the video indicates that you could change the look of it, without having to buy a new one or new accessories.

Obviously this is all theoretical right now, so let's wait and see if/when a device like this actually comes about.
