Milk Jugs Recycled Into Green Toys

green-toys-sand-group.jpgWhen you send the milk jug in your fridge on to the recycler, it’s often the last you’ll think of it. But Green Toys, Inc. is busy recycling them for profit into their line of classic children’s toys. And as they point out on their website, every pound of milk jugs recycled means an energy savings equivalent to 3,000 AAA batteries, three weeks worth of the electricity needed to power a TV or enough to run your laptop for the entire month ahead.

Not to mention the fact that they’ll also provide a great way to teach your kids about the positive benefits of recycling waste products into something fun.

green-toys-sandbox.jpgCurrently, there’s a tea set, cookware, a beach bucket, and even a gardening kit for kids. And I’m willing to bet that Green Toys will be giving folks like those at SEE Toys and Sprig Toys a run for their money in the eco-toy competition ahead.

Good lord! It's statistics like this that really put the energy costs of manufacturing in to perspective. And this is just the claimed energy savings versus using virgin materials. Using recycled LDPE is a sensible step forward, but I wonder how much energy it still takes to manufacture, even from recycled plastic? Remember, reduce, THEN reuse, THEN recycle!

Thanks for the info. My 5 y.o. is always eager to learn what is made from the items we are recycling. She will be thrilled to know her milk jugs are going to make some very cool toys!

So I guess you can only find milk carton and milk bags in Canada. I can hardly find any plastic milk jugs here in Montreal... So I no cool green toys for us ! /sarcasm

Not everything made out of recycled plastic should be headlined as recycled. Consumers still focus on other things like functionality and price depending on what they want. More on this in my blog on Can I interest you in a green blow-up doll.

That is truely amazing. I've got to remember this.
