Finding True Love on Public Transit: Bus Bet Leads to Marriage

Bus-riding is for lovers. So proved Amanda Hodson and Brendan Miles, who were both taking the bus one fateful day in Calgary about five years ago. Amanda, who got on first, was riding with her friends when they bet her $40 to kiss the next person who hopped aboard. That person was Brendan, and she won the bet.
"I walked on the bus, she walked up to me and all of a sudden she was kissing me," Brendan said. "And I just said, 'this is great!', and so I kissed her back." She offered some of her winnings to take him to coffee, which led to more dates and, finally, a wedding last week. Of course, their wedding pictures were taken in a bus. Just something to keep in mind the next time you consider climbing behind the wheel (alone) of your car; maybe not as conventional as Green Singles or the like, but equally effective, for sure. The happy couple have certainly embraced the ideals of our How to Green Your Public Transportation and How to Green Your Wedding guides; we'll now refer them to How to Green Your Sex Life and wish them all the best. Next stop: honeymoon. ::Yahoo! Canada via ::AutoblogGreen

Nothing like this ever happens in the U.S. People in the U.S are not as care free as people in Canada. I can't imagine any woman in the U.S doing something like that. And on a bus of all places!
Kissing complete strangers on a train: your path to true love or easy way to catch herpes?
I don't think Calgary is that much more "car-free" than the U.S. It is one of the most sprawling cities in North America. The city now has only a slightly smaller urban footprint than that of New York City and its boroughs, despite having less than one-eighth the population of New York City proper.
Several U.S. cities have higher transit ridership than Calgary.
If it can happen in Calgary it can happen anywhere.
I met my current partner while waiting for the bus, nearly five years ago. Two of our other friends also met on the bus and are now engaged. There were no bets involved, though. And we do live in Canada.
The bus we were all riding was an express bus with only five buses in the morning and evening. Because of the limited schedule, it is very common to see the same people waiting for that bus at the same time every day. Eventually, people are familiar and not strangers. Now I see people other places around town and identify them as 36ers (the bus route number).
So meeting on the bus sometimes works!

oops....
I've ridden public transit plenty of times before, but never kissed or kissed by anyone on the transit. My wife and I met at a Chinese restaurant where we were both working - she walked to work while I biked (sometimes I drove).
So next time when you are thinking of working for McWendy's King, take a look at your local Chinese restaurants just down the street... :-)

I've never kissed anybody on the bus (ew), but I did meet my boyfriend on the bus in Boston. He'd seen me a few times before and had been working up the courage to say hello. One day I happened to be looking for a copy of the paper to read, and he happened to have one, so we shared it. We've been together for a year and a half now, and he's the most wonderful person i've ever met
So glad I have a care-er, car!
i was approached by a lovely girl on new year's eve of 2000 in downtown SF. she said happy new year's and i asked for a new year's kiss. we kissed until about 3am and have been married now for almost 7 years. so these things happen...
Well, I am going to Calgary soon - so we will see what happens :-)
