No Trespassing & Do Not Demolish: A house in Nizhny Novgorod.
A Russian woman named Lyudmila Martemyanova returned home last month from a vacation out of town, only to find that her house had been completely leveled to the ground. "There was nothing left, not even a log," she later told the Russian press.
Don't get too close to my apartment building, comrade.
The house, which used to occupy a lot in the center of the Russian town of Nizhny Novgorod, was apparently mistaken by construction workers for another building, which was slated for demolition. Innocent mistake? Maybe, but housing demolitions and inadequate compensation for owners of demolished buildings have reportedly become an issue in the new market-driven Russia.
Lyudmila, meanwhile, has taken her case to court. She received an offer of compensation from the builder who "mistakenly" tore down her house, but refused it on the grounds that it was not even enough money to get a room on the edge of town.
