Compacta All-in-One Kitchen Island: It's All There

Debuting at Casadecor Barcelona 2007, Spanish company Artificio's Compacta kitchen squeezes a sink, refrigerator, freezer and pantry into this compact, compelling structure. The smart, modular design allows for maximum functionality in a minimal space, similar to the Dy-rection Line concept and the Orgasmatron-esque Clever Kitchen we've seen before. Smart; more pics of Compacta below the fold. ::Artificio via ::Materialicious

No aesthetic. Just looking at the photos I can feel the pressure in my brain start to build.

This would probably be nice for those posh california-wine country outdoor sheltered kitchens with no walls. Indoor, ther'd be all this wasted wall space, or a 'kitchen' in the middle of something elses space. I think there are better designs, but kudos anyway.

I guess that is 'compact' if it is your entire kitchen, but having just remodelled my own kitchen, seems like a waste of space really unless you have room to walk all the way around it, at which point you probably could afford a conventional kitchen anyways.

I guess it could be a handy solution as a single-unit drop-in kitchen for prefab housing or something. I'm just curious about two things:

1. Is any of the equipment of standard size for replacement and repair?
2. Can I get it in a color that wouldn't make it look like I was preparing my food on recycled barf?

This sounded interesting as we are setting up a small house for my youngest daughter and her children. However the sight of it shows as barely what I would conceive as compact. And is it so expensive you just are fearful of showing the price? Thanks
