Steve Greenberg on Bottled Water
by Lloyd Alter, Toronto on 02.29.08

Steve Greenberg of the Ventura County Star does a good graphic analysis of the silliness of bottled water. We think he is way off on the amount of CO2 generated per year; when we go back to the numbers posted by Pablo Paster on the true cost of bottled water, we calculate that it is off by about six or nine zeros. Used with permission by Steve Greenberg of ::Greenberg-art.com who seems to be single-handedly responsible for about half of the environmental cartoons seen on the net.

Too bad:
"All cartoons on this site are copyright by either Steve Greenberg or the publications of their appearance, and may not be reposted, reprinted or reused without permission. Nothing on this site is in the public domain."
LA: yes, but I asked for permission and he granted it within hours.
I started carrying my own water bottle for some time; what I find frustrating is the lack of refill options especially at airports where you have to chug or toss--and once past security there is nothing available or some fairly grungy water fountain. I believe that bottled water is not a wise resource expenditure but we need to have better options supported by incentives to change this behavior.
How does 45 - 50 million barrels of oil = 3 Tons of CO2?
Great visual example otherwise.
3 tons of CO2 isn't very much, that number should be many orders of magnitude higher
Does nobody read what I write? "We think he is way off on the amount of CO2 generated per year; when we go back to the numbers posted by Pablo Paster on the true cost of bottled water, we calculate that it is off by about six or nine zeros"
Lloyd, I think the replies to your post prove that a picture is indeed worth a thousand words ... making your point may be more effective with another picture (or a cartoon) ... reading is so mundane (I jest of course). Good article.
I don't think nobody does read, but anybody could.
It has to be in pictures as most people are way to freaking lazy to read. They cant even get off their behinds to put water into a container they need to go to the store to get it in a container....
People have seemed to be way to lazy to do many simple tasks...
Like putting trash into a bin...
Like lifting your arm 3 inches to use a blinker when they are driving...
Im ranting ...Sorry...

Rant on, Jason S. Not enough peolpe get angry enough to do something or make other people feel uncomfortable enough to -gasp- do the right thing.
