How Many Plastic Bottles Did it Take to Make This Suit?

Thirty.

Fit for the pages of GQ, eco-chic men can get even chicer with international clothier, Bagir.

The company – which clothes one in six British men – has just taken post-consumer waste to a new level through its EcoGir Recycled Suit.

Both the lining and the EcoGir jacket is made from 100% discarded PET bottles. We love it. Garments made from post consumer waste save much more energy compared to manufacturing virgin fiber.

And Bagir recognizes this too. The company has also invested $100,000 to determine the carbon footprint of its garments and plans to label its suits in the next year.

If wearing around old pop bottles isn’t your thing – inspired to be sustainable, they say – the company also offers a line of organic cotton blends, with lining made from bamboo and buttons from Tagua palm tree seeds, ecologically harvested of course.

If you are not sure about going all the way, Bagir also offers a hybrid line “EcoGir Hybridis” made from 55% discarded plastic PET bottles. Gives new meaning to taking out the trash, boys.

Thank You! Finally I can wear eco-clothing without looking like a 60's throwback. Sorry, but I work in the WashDC area, and even in the eco-industries, in DC you still have to look the part (hard to go to a meeting and spread the gospel and be taken seriously if not wearing a suit).

Cheers!

Finally??

whats so wrong with Georgio Armani 3 button hemp suits? ..or EcoGir organic cotton & Linnen suits? ...or Rawganiques amazing men's suits? They aren't 60's, they aren't hippie... you think you need to look the part, what about all the green people working with VCs? lots of people need to suit up....

but you might want to ask what PET really is... and know that its really a nicer way to basically say POLYESTER. Not only does the Antimony leech out in sweat (better stay cool in those suits) but basically while yes, its recycled materials, any suit made from PET bottles is basically a polyester suit. That is not only not a good material to wear if you want to impress people in the halls of D.C. but it is also really really 70s...

wow, these are nice. I'd definitely be interested in wearing one of these suits.

Recycled PET leaches antimony when used in clothing.

Thank you thank you thank you! I personally & our earth appreciates you. keep up the good work please, we all deserve it!

Ummm... wearing a polyester suit aint gonna cut it in any industry... except maybe plastics!

this sounds great, and maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong...

but I believe this type of 'fiber' which is similarly used in other fabric materials such as bags, carpets, carpet bags, etc. is fairly unhealthy for the body.
Every time the fabric abrades it releases small particles of plastic which we in turn can breath in. Wrapping yourself in it is a good way to increase your chances of breathing more of it in.

I'm all for finding improved ways to design...well, everything, but I don't know if this should be considered a big step in the right direction. At most its sidestepping the problem from one realm (environmental) to another (personal health).

My question is this? Is this going to be like every thing else in the world thats a good idea?

What do Hybrid Cars Soy Milk Or any other thing that is better for you health or our Planet have in commen?

It cost more money to do the right thing.
Will this be the same way?

There is one other retailer that I enjoy shopping at that is currently carrying an extensive line of 100% recycled suits from brands like Ralph Lauren and Keneth Cole among many others. It is call the Salvation Army thrift store. A nice suite is only $15 and a trip to the dry cleaners away.

i am still waiting to see the articles on where to buy a nice eco friendly ladies suit. you claimed in your q&a requarding dress suits that if matthew was a woman that you would have a lot more choices. well i would sure like to know them considering i cannot find but maybe 3 websites that sell pants suits. it would have been a lot more helpful if you would have included that information about womens suits in with that article.
