Plug-in Racing Cooler Hits the Streets

TreeHugger loves plug-in hybrids, and here is the best one yet- the Cruzin Cooler goes 13 mph for up to 15 miles on a charge, and carries a case of ethanol-enhanced biofuel in the form of ice cold beer. Not for San Francisco though- "These units are designed for the operation with only one passenger not weighting more than 200 pounds and at least 18 years of age. These coolers are designed to be used on flat level paved surfaces only, grades may make the cooler run at excessive speeds downhill." Silly video of cooler racing below the fold.

how can this site get irate about people using "gas guzzlers" to do important things like go to work, transport a family or cross continents, but then go nuts for a wasteful use of energy like the beer cooler mobile.

Don't get me wrong, its awesome, I want one but you can't get on your high horse about people like me who dare to drive a petrol car in a city and then decide that just because its a plugin, the hybrid "i could do this on a bike or just bloody walk" beer cooler is eco, you do know electricity isn't created by static from kittens you know, most of it still comes from nasty stuff.

Also, when will we be able to harness the power of kittens?

Cooler Racing.

My love for America is unconditional, unequivocal, and abiding.

My friends have one of these and man they actually move! When you're cruising at 15mph on something this small it feels like 25. They also go through grass very well.

Slow news day? I saw this hit the streets two years ago in a Cabelas store.

When your making posts just for the sake of making your quota for the day you devalue the legit posts.

@cornishbob; We have already learned to harness the power of kittens, http://www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/01/funny-picturs-cat-in-exhaust.jpg

Haha they look like idiots on those things. What's the pint of it again?

At least the cute blonde is conserving threads on the clothes. That cooler runs hot at any speed!

I imagine you need the gas guzzling Suburban to get these to where you want to run them.

Happy Friday!

I agree with cornishbob on this except that this IS all in the name of fun and semi-ok if hooked up to solar cells (doubt it). Yes, this IS excess but we also must not allow ourselves to become prudes and avoid all forms of it. It's a tough balance and I have no idea where to draw the line. You could consider ones who DON'T buy it to be carbon-trading to the ones who do - I don't know, alienation of ourselves is not the right approach. Cute plug-in but perhaps a caveat of solar-requirements would have been appropriate in the article.

Considering that this consumes about 1 percent of an SUV tearing up the wilderness (and it promotes drunkenness) I would encourage this activity. I think the Government should give them money.

This is THE vehicle of choice for Burning Man. The "train" of coolers is the best.

"one more ride...pleeeease?"

ROFL this is perfect! Anyone who's lugged a full cooler even a short distance can appreciate something like this. Now imagine one that's built for a bit more terrain, meaning you don't have to park so close to the camp site, no need to cut in a road, saving the trees! How's that for a green angle?
