Green Stats: 29,628
by Collin Dunn, Corvallis, OR, USA on 01.29.08

29, 628 -- the number of grid-connected solar photovoltaic installations in California in January 2008, according to the California Energy Commission.
1,675 -- the number of grid-connected solar photovoltaic installations in California prior to 2002; that's a seventeen-fold increase over six years. Wow.
Inspired by these statistics, Cooler Planet decided to map this explosive growth in solar panel installations, to see where they were happening in California. The interactive map they created is a great way to visualize the growth of the solar industry, year by year and megawatt by megawatt. What will that map look like in another six years? ::Cooler Planet

That is extremely cool. The slider feature makes this a very effective visualization. It would be great if you could get watts per install in addition to watts and installs. A very nice way to attract people to their site though.
Thanks Collin (for the post) and Andy for the suggestion. We plan on adding some cool new stuff to the map, and will definitely take your suggestion into consideration... stay tuned!

Hey guys, we've updated the map page to include information about watts/install (for Andy), as well as carbon emission reduction due to the installs. Hope you enjoy it! Let us know if you have any suggestions to further the map!
