Another One Bites The Dust: Bata Shoe, The Movie
by Lloyd Alter, Toronto on 01.21.08
We mentioned earlier our concern for an entire generation of buildings that is being lost because they are not old enough to be "historic". John B. Parkin's Bata Shoe Headquarters was like that- too small and on a prime site so it had to go. It is not only a waste of embodied energy stored in a perfectly good building, it is an artistic loss. We cannot afford to keep doing this.
We covered it here previously but Don Blaymee has done a lovely and touching video of its demolition, set to the sound of Art Garfunkel singing. ::Youtube thanks Maarten!

A very well crafted of a very sad demise of a very beautiful building.
I guess the Aga Khan gets what the Aga Khan wants.
The bit of info I found on the subject:
"The centre could also become an international symbol of the diversity and tolerance that should be Toronto's hallmark"
'Could' and 'should'!... time will tell.
