Being TreeHugger's first Christmas, we dipped our toe into the real or fake tree debate for the first time, with ::How To: Pick a Green Christmas Tree. It is the subject that keeps on giving; read subsequent posts on how ::Christmas Trees Add to Global Warming because in the Southern United States, hardwoods and indigenous pine trees are being cut down to make Christmas tree farms. I haven't looked into this in any detail, but I would think where the tree comes from and go make a big difference. We get our tree from a tree farm in town, and when we are done, the county waste department will pick it up and either use it for compost at our community farm that produces 10% of the city's produce or use it for electricity generation at our wood chip power plant.
