Survey: What Should We Rename "Global Warming"?

Tom Friedman says "sweet-sounding “global warming” doesn’t really capture what’s likely to happen." Wayne Roberts says Global warming is "a phrase that should be shunned as climatically incorrect and Eurocentric." We asked readers for suggestions and got a few.

Doesn't the scientific community steer clear of "Global Warming?" "Global Climate Change" is official, but if you wanted more pop, I think "Human Catalyzed Global Climate Change" isn't bad.

Tomorrow's Problem.

We haven't got time to worry about it today. Until we get a premiumised version of global warming nobody will take interest in it.

Climate destabilization

From an excellent viral YouTube video about Global warming, presenting a solid line of reasoning to defeat the skeptics. Essentially risk management. Good news that important information can reach people on YouTube, instead of the usual mindless stuff.

Here is the link to his updated version. The original has been viewed by over a half million people.

The original version is here. It has a more leisurely pace.

Why are we trying to create a brand name for climate change? This situation is way too diverse for such a short, catch-phrase-like name.

That said, the closest I can get is "human-assisted global climate change."

THE END

(No Not Montauk!).

Short Form- The End. Long Form- The End of how it used to be.

The end of pre-change shore front property. The end of 'easy' bloody (literally, not the UK 'bloody') oil.
The end of the Purple Mountain's Majesty (they will turn a black/brown color). The end of new gas powered vehicles to the public. The end of coal.
All will be great, except no one will be around to tool around in their Teslas because it will be The End of US !!

Happy Monday!

The Human Effect

Then when you talk about cause and effect, the problems would be your causes, and the effect is changing climate and all that.

What about the Brownout? Because it points at what "the end" is not: a sudden death, but a long and painful one. On that same train of thought: Global Wilting.... or the Big Slush

And in the not civil comment dept: The Carbonalypse or Carbonalypto if you are Gibson inclined.

jump to top MarlboroTestMonkey17 [TypeKey Profile Page] says:

I vote for Steve's "climate destabilization". And a comment in response to Adam: Having a good brand for it is important in spreading knowledge about it. People are much more likely to pay attention to something sounding snazzy than something sounding lame, and they're more likely to take seriously something sounding scary than something sounding pleasant.

jump to top Alex says:

How 'bout "The Big Hoax"?

Really, no serious scientist believes in this stuff. Let's focus on real issues, like getting away from oil--having our civilization dependent on a black slime that we pull out of the ground is really rather silly, isn't it?

jump to top Ferretman says:

Climate crisis

I'm surprise you forgot Al Gore's terminology.

jump to top John says:

GW, let's keep it simple. Kindalike POC for the even more horible post oil crises (we know that will be real complete with poverty and death). Another very important should be REI for renewable energy infrastructure. How about SEARS for stupid enviro's against renewables, (i hear of 'em everytime I look up "windfarm")

jump to top fireofenergy says:

I like 'Climate Destabilization' as well.

jump to top Lee says:

GW, it's not quite as bad as what humans will do when we run out of gas. POC or post oil crises will cause death and decay. It also will prevent any hopes of the REI (Renewable Energy Infrastructure), Thus resource wars and nuclear winter. The planet has dealt with GW before, but can it overcome nukes?

Here's one... SEARS : stupid enviro's against renewableS

jump to top fireofenergy [TypeKey Profile Page] says:

Ice Age Mop-up

Did you know some of the ice age killers that caused the extinction of countless species are still lurking around the world today? Glaciers. Polar ice caps. Permafrost. Wipe out these silent killers before they wipe us out! We should not rest until Canada, Greenland, and Siberia are lush tropical paradises once again!
