An abandoned parking meter in Baltimore gets cut down to size and now accepts bikes instead of quarters. The parking spot's presumably still there, because the meter was made obsolete only because it was replaced by a new-fangled parking machine. Still, we can dream. ::Flickr

We have these in Seattle in some places where the new electric parking meters have been installed. I think the same goes for Portland, OR.
This is Fantastic!
Many cities are installing centralized meters that print receipts you leave with your car.
This means that nearly every existing parking meter can be converted to a bike rack.
What's shown in the photo looks a little flimsy and perhaps insecure. But it's a magnificent proof of concept.
Unfortunately, we have that ugly diagonal parking on that street in Hampden, so that the tourists can park their yachts. It makes a nice place look like a parking lot. These racks are a very nice touch, though:) They appear pretty sturdy if you grab onto one.
Yeah, I hate the new diagonal parking scheme in Hamden as well. And the new centralized meters have basically ended any free parking in the City. Boo!
