The 3rd annual premier green soirée popped off earlier this week at San Francisco’s LEED certified Bently Reserve. The event focused on green design solutions to combat climate change. Proceeds from the evening benefited Global Green projects, including their Green Schools Initiative and the Holy Cross project, the first sustainable low-income housing community in New Orleans’s Lower 9th Ward.
No evening is complete without an eco-chic fashion show. Let’s not forget, style guru Zem Joaquin of ecofabulous helps throw this party! Designs by Linda Loudermilk, Lara Miller, William Good, Margaret O'Leary, Bahar Shahpar, and Eco Citizen strutted the catwalk. The natural ambiance and elegant décor was created by Nicole Sillapere, who stated, “I love to partner old with the new and incorporate salvaged goods into my work like re-used fabrics and FSC wallpaper.”

Last year our old friend Nick Aster rubbed elbows with Leo DiCaprio, Salma Hayek, Ed Norton, William McDonough, and Orlando Bloom. This year there were a bit fewer high profiles mingling about, but Nick and I did get a chance to talk shop with Jason Lewis, Stephen Jenkins (Third Eye Blind), and the lovely Q'Orianka Kilcher. Recently, Q'Orianka was a recipient of the BYA award for her extensive work with the indigenous Achuar communities of the Peruvian Amazon. Currently, she is very focused on school and plans to start working on a new environmental film in Alaska. Other celebrity guests in attendance included Josie Maran, Jason Behr, and Michelle Branch.

On the ground, G&G made a concerted effort to be both local and sustainable by working with green Bay Area businesses like Green Home who provided compostableware, and refreshments by Numi Tea and Three Twins Ice Cream.
Many thanks for the party Global Green and showing us that - YES galas can be fabulous, gorgeous, and green!
