"You Are Now an Operator of a Wheeled Vehicle": Bike Safety in the 50s

We are all about bikes here at TreeHugger, and we are all about bike safety. We loved Canadian MP Olivia Chow’s video on tips to stay out of harm's way, and being seen is certainly always an issue. We’ve just come across the above video showing that bicycle safety was an important consideration, even in the relatively traffic-free 50s. Many of the tips are still relevant today, though with the benefit of hindsight, it’s kind of a shame that kids of the time were told that “you are the automobile driver of the future.” And let’s not get too carried away with the risks. Remember, some people even claim it is more dangerous not to ride a bike! ::YouTube::via site visit::
