Wretched Excess Dept: 727 Turned into Limo
by Lloyd Alter, Toronto on 11. 6.07

So many ways to waste fuel and money. How did we miss out on this eBay auction that just ended: A Boeing 727 that was converted into a limousine, complete with [sic on the typos] "Living room Fisrt Class with lighting and wrap around seating. Then enter the sunken living room with a dance floor, big screen TV, fireplace, and full Bar for your bartender. Lazer lights, fog machine, strobe lighting, and windows down both sides. Ceiling mirrors, and aero dynamic seating and bars." Don't know what the gas mileage is, (if you have to ask you can't afford it) but the turbo engine is from a Mercedes 2000 bus, and we have no doubt that the consumption will be very conspicuous. Sold for $ 274,100, only $ 531 per square foot. ::Groovy Green

I sure wouldn't want to be the driver of that thing
I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
Look at the bright side: It will be far greener than flying a 727 would be.
That plane, which by today's standards is a fuel hog, has been configured for personal use as a plane, so this is nothing.
re-purposing mixed with mass transit, a potential motorhome/small spaces art piece and a place for apparently many people to be drunk, not driving separate vehicles, with a designated driver, and treehugger decides to call it wretched excess.
when the treehugger community stops hating rich people and begins to see things for what they are they might begin to have some actual real impact.
this reminds me of the time treehugger was mocking a stretch limo stuck on a hill in sf without acknowledging the fact that 10 couples were using one car instead of eight for their night on the town. -- it''s like taking the bus to prom. THAT'S A GOOD THING PEOPLE.
hating luxury does nothing for the planet.
think, don't just hate.

for one thing: it is aerodynamic so it could've been even worse...
That's pretty cool, in a lux Mad Max kind of way.
I agree, it's a bus, and therefore it is more efficient than each passenger driving separately.
This machine achieves two of the three conservation principles: Reduce and Reuse.
If this vehicle was used as a bio-diesel platform to roam the country spreading the word about alternative fuels and re-use, Treehugger would have praised it.
I'd say that this is less a limo and more a bus.
Anonymous, you are correct. Its massive excess, but not as much as is painted here.
