Teacher Creates Solar-Electric Blimp

We’ve covered the rebirth of the airship before here and here. Now we’ve come across a homemade, solar-powered blimp constructed by Daniel Geery, an elementary school teacher, for less than $1000. While we don’t expect anyone to be crossing the Atlantic on this any time soon, Geery does see it as an indication of what could be done if we put our minds to it:
If an elementary school teacher like myself can make this happen, with panels that are less than 6% efficient, it is worth contemplating what our country could have done by now if we'd made the effort. But as they say, better late than never.

This is so cool! I do agree: a similar project funded by DARPA could bring very impressive results. We need more people like this.
People find airplanes economic. The prices for short flights are high and that's why it's economic. Fine for them, they should be happy with their attitude. Same with overpopulation. Once in a while a couple of animals dies out just because of humans who kill them and the people call it common progress in saving diversity in ecology. Congratulations for their believe too.
Now there is a posting called Vertical Growth which describes aviation technology that could be outlined to change the direction of population growth. Here is a link http://shintoist.com/vertical.txt that leads to a draft of version 0.2.2 of the report and http://shintoist.com/l/ leads to an officially published version. Without promising too much, I suggest that when you prefer to edit that above mentioned draft and agree to publish it, the new ideas for aviation technology will effect a good change in culture and nature.
However, I'm contemplating that I should transfer anything written about overpopulation and alternative aviation to an archive for temporary storage. Perhaps there are also higher educated people in the future who make the effort to accept truth.
