International Bicycle Film Festival Comes Down Under

By some oversight we’ve missed the opportunity to alert readers to the International Bicycle Film Festival of 2007 until now. After it has already blitzed 13 cities worldwide, it finds itself skidding to a halt for a few weeks in Australia.
In Sydney it kicks off with a free art exhibition, called Bespoke. Opening this Wednesday 28 November and running until 30 November, when the actual films show. So enjoy the video, sculpture, paintings and graffiti until the flicks kick in on that Friday night at the Dendy Opera Quays cinema and continue the following day. A picnic celebrating bicycling happens the day after.
This year the line-up includes a movie that won a Special Jury Award from the Toronto International Film Festival, a trio of snowboarders who ride a pedalcar and trailer in search of the best runs, a nurse in Ghana whose vital community development work relies on her recycled bicycle, the history of the modern mountain bike from the trails of Marin County, London-Mexico City-New York as seen by helmet cam, the hard working and playing of Santa Cruz Bicycles employees. And more.
Then, without hardly drawing breath, the show rolls into Melbourne, a city thronging with cyclists, who’ll no doubt thrive on the five days of freewheeling festivities, commencing 5 December.
Should you miss either of these two events, then your last chance will be to push out your pedal boat and set off for Tokyo and hope you can arrive there before 14 December.
