The 11 other states that have clutched California's tough emissions standards against their legislative bosoms: Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey (whoo hoo!), New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington.
Five states that have said they plan to jump on board are Arizona, Colorado, Florida, New Mexico, and Utah.
Also, California's Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Attorney General Jerry Brown today announced plans to sue the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for lallygagging on the much-needed waiver that will allow the state to implement stricter standards than those imposed under federal law. If the EPA denies the waiver, "we sue again, and sue again, and sue again until we get it," Schwarzenegger told reporters.
Illinois has said it will join California's lawsuit but has not decided if it will adopt the state's emissions standards. Other states that plan to join the lawsuit against the federal government are Arizona, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey (whoo hoo!), New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington. ::AP and ::Reuters
