Domino Bazaar: Two Days Left!

Domino's second annual shopping bazaar is greener than you might think—as soon as you're ushered through the entrance, you're handed a large organic-cotton shopping tote with "Made in the USA" proudly emblazoned across its side-seam label. (No paper versus plastic conundrums at the checkout line, thanks.)

While not quite shopping for days, the sizable assemblage of popular designers and merchants will reel thrifty shoppers in with discounts of up to 40 percent off list prices, along with one-on-one design consultations, seminars, and complimentary cocktails—not half-bad for an entry fee of $20, which includes a one-year Domino subscription and an unspecified donation to the Aids Community Research Initiative of America.

Flor is well-represented, as are Method, InModern, ducduc (although it lost points for encasing its conventional-cotton sheets in vinyl), Ink & Wit, and even Chris Jordan, who has one of his pieces hanging in the Art Gallery.

We also discovered a few new-to-us names on the sustainable front, ranging from light green to dead-on crunchy.

Jessie D'Angelo Handmade
Founded by Peruvian designer Jessie D'Angelo, her eponymous company uses traditional hand-loom techniques to weave natural fibers—such as alpaca, merino wool, and llama—into pillows, rugs, bags, and throws that combine vibrancy of design with extraordinary loft. We mooned over her cow-print cushions, in particular.

Lauren Spa
Making its debut this month is a new organic bed-and-bath collection from Ralph Lauren. Lauren Spa's towels and sheets are made from 100 percent Skal-certified organic cotton and colored with vegetable-based dyes. Available online and at Bloomingdale's, the thankfully not-just-beige collection promises luxury—albeit at luxury prices. A bath towel will part your wallet with $39.99, while a Queen fitted sheet will cost you $69.99.

Pharmacopia
The shelves at the Domino Bazaar were well-stocked with Pharmacopia's handcrafted organic soy candles, with aromatic scents such as ginger, citrus, rosemary, and of course, that oldie but goodie, lavender. The San Rafael, Calif.-based skincare company also supplies all-natural (and paraben-free) creams, lotions, and oils made from mostly fairly traded and certified-organic ingredients.
