Hello, gorgeous!: Angela Adam's sustainable textiles are now available in the guise of wallets, laptop bags, and purses.

Made from 100 percent post-industrial recycled polyester, the chic and modern accessories are built to last, if not completely green: We harbor slight misgivings about the likely conventionally tanned leather interiors, as well as the purported stain-resistant finish. With these price tags, we'd like to see at least recycled or vegetable-tanned leather embellishments. ::Velocity Art and Design

Whether tanned, or conventionally tanned, leather is not sustainable, nor cruelty-free. The raising of animals, whether for leather or food is one of the most environmentally devastating practices around in additon to being cruel and barbaric. Why not use hemp, or other cruelty-free products that are readily available and don't involve the death of a living being?

@Hannah Tai:

As a vegetarian, I totally grok what you say about leather. Some of my friends, however, are of a mind that hide is a byproduct of the cattle industry, so making use of it is actually waste reduction.

Personally I wouldn't buy leather goods, vegetable tanned or not, but it's something to think about. (And we're not going to stop people from choosing leather, so at least there's a less polluting option.)
