Wal-Mart to Hawk House-Brand CFLs

Coming to a light socket near you: Wal-Mart's own brand energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs, which the big-box retailer plans to unleash at more than 3,000 of its U.S. stores by the end of September.
While Wal-Mart will continue to sell other brand-name bulbs alongside its own Great Value line, it says it hopes the new, more-affordable bulbs will help it achieve its goal of selling 100 million CFLs before 2007 runs out.
"We want to make eco-friendly living more affordable for our customers and with the Great Value CFLs, we can make energy-efficiency easy at an unbeatable price," said Wal-Mart Senior Vice President Andy Barron in a press release. ::GreenBiz News

Just great, I've been trying to convince people to try them again and now they will end up with low quality crap from walmart and have problems and not want t use them.
I'm perplexed. This is good news, no?
I'm a little concerned that Wal-Mart's average customer is not aware of the proper means to dispose of CFLs. Will we see a surge of mercury in landfills 5 years down the line?
And I can't help but wonder: Where is Wal-Mart skimping to make a cheap bulb?
I think you should enlighten more people I'm not aware of the proper way to dispose them either, and I bought mine at Home Depot.
They need to have more methods for disposal available
they can start by using them in their own stores first....
They've probably used arsenic inside them instead so they can claim they're mercury-free!

All these CFLs are made in CHINA, the home of lead paint in children's toys, missing chemicals and marshmallow candy made for the same company that makes Marshmallow Peeps for Easter. People don't recycle properly now. How will you expect them to have to TAKE the CFLs to a recycling center? We can't even get the people in my development to NOT put their recyclables and newspapers in plastic bags. So how do you expect them to NOT put the CFLs in the dumpsters (Straight to the landfills) or in the trash? AND they are made in CHINA!!!! Oh by the way did I mention they are ALL MADE IN CHINA. ALL OF THEM!!!!!!!
