The Bicycle Lift: Trondheim's Trampe On Video
by Lloyd Alter, Toronto on 09.21.07
We so need this in Toronto- there is an escarpment cutting across town that intimidates a lot of people who might ride bikes to work if they didn't have to climb the hill getting home. We have shown Trondheim's wonderful bike lift before, but through the wonder of YouTube we now present the video. And for those who think investing in bicycle infrastructure is silly in cold climates, this is in Norway. via ::Sietch Blog

Very Groovy. Much like the cable-car idea in San Francisco, but a totally new application. Now if they can capture the energy of the bike going down the hill...
Good Idea....
Regarding the topic of using a bicicle in cold weather, I think is a better weather than a hot one, just think about getting yourself to work on a 90f° climate.
"Trampe" means stamping.. First time I tried it it was very difficult, but after a few rides you get the hang of it.. But the aceleration is so strong that old ladies would prefer to get up the hill the old slow fashion way.
The ice problem is solved by heating along the ramp in the winter. Its a great idea, sorry to inform you that this hill is only the smallest climb, the reamainig km has no Trampe, but maybe one day the rest is covered as well :)
