Fall Fashion 07: Stewart + Brown

While putting together its Fall 2007 collection, Stewart + Brown revisited the sepia-toned romance of early 20th century locomotive travel—trains careening noisily down the rails past lush, picturesque scenery, while elegantly dressed passengers sipped from delicate bone-china teacups.

Mongolian cashmere, organic cotton, merino wool, and surplus fabrics are cut into soft, feminine sweaters and loose, diaphanous dresses. Endless layering and matching options await for adventure seekers. More designs below the fold. ::Stewart + Brown

Could they have done the simulated violin playing better? It's awful. I'm a violist/violinist and it is killing me. Their clothing is great though. All they had to do was consult with an actual string player.

I appreciate ecologically sound fashion as much as the other guy, but maybe you shouldn't use props like violins if your models are going to hold them on the wrong shoulder and grip their bows like tennis rackets :) Just a tip, as it caught my eye before the clothing did.

jump to top Chris says:

Good to see more sensible styles; now if they'd just stop using wafer-thin models, the "green" fashion would really be on the right course for instigating real positive change.

jump to top Michael says:

I totally agree with Tracey. It's obvious she doesn't play the violin because her pose is just so awkward. I can't see the clothes after that. A good ad must at least have some real elements to it.

jump to top BT says:

Haha, that reminds me of how much it bothers me when "guitarists" play the instrument upside down in commercials. And I won't even start with Danny Bonaducci's bass playing on "The Partridge Family."

At any rate, the inspiration of early 20th Century trains is pretty strange for an eco-friendly clothing line, in my opinion.

Plus, they're too bland for my tastes. I'm looking for some more colorful "green" clothing for my girlfriend's upcoming birthday. Any suggestions?

jump to top James O'Malley says:

I'm glad I'm not the only one to get irritated by the violin fiasco. I always want to yell 'hire me, I can actually play the thing!'

Hi James, drop me an e-mail with what you're looking for and I'll help the best I can. (jasmin-at-treehugger-dotcom)

jump to top Jasmin Chua says:

Nothing sustainable if it cost $295 for a fall PIECE.

jump to top pd lam says:

Violinists out there, I completely agree with you. I'm only grade three, and my posture ain't great, but boy, did a shudder run through me - and a strange urge to correct her.
But I love the idea of the company - its looks pretty cool!
