Do It All Knives: Multi-Tasking Your Way to an Uncluttered Kitchen

How's this for a brilliant multi-tasker: a set of knives that doubles up to perform duties as a vegetable peeler, citrus zester, garlic mincer and more. It's tough to get by in a kitchen without knives, but, at least with these guys, you can now do without several cluttering peripherals. Multi-tasking knives may be good in concept, but in practice they don't handle well. Just buy nice forged knives. Support the blacksmiths, instead of the corpurate steel mills. You only really need a chef's knife, a paring knife, and a cheap peeler. They rest is filler.

The problem with gadgets like these is they do nothing well, so they do not get used, and are therefore a waste of materials.

Function is one thing, safety is another. Even if you have kids using your knives, believe it or not it is far saver to keep the knives RAZOR sharp then to buy cheap knives that dull easily or won't hold an edge. A sharp knife cuts with little effort, sawing, hacking, etc., and when used properly won't cause injury.

That potato peeler knife pictured looks like an accident waiting to happen. Don't buy these knives!

What a great new way to cut yourself! If you tried to use that peeler, the blade side of the knife would be facing your hand. Maybe it would be good for camping.

is it just me, or do these look like a bear to clean, as well as safety hazards?

All they have to do now is combine the knives with your pots and pans, freeing up even MORE space in your kitchen! The ginsu-Clad Frying pan!
The thought of peeling or zesting something that has a long exposed razor sharp edge definitely doesn't appeal to me. I personally like having "stuff" in my utility drawer!!!

What is the deal with the salt?

A knife IS a peeler, zester and mincer.

Most (not all) serious chefs (home and pro) generally don't buy kitchen gadgets. But they do get these gadgets as gifts and ultimately find their way to the back of the drawer.

Like Conrad points out, a few good knives will handle anything. But I'd have to add a bread knife to his list. :-)

As for camping, a cheap set of utensils from goodwill or a garage sale saves resources.

Useless ... absolutely useless ... these are the types of trash that fill up those utensil drawers!

Go buy some quality forged knives and learn to use them ... it is that simple.
