Car Free Day: Toronto Report
by Lloyd Alter, Toronto on 09.23.07
It was anything but; a major highway was closed for repaving and all of the traffic was rerouted, so every street was just clogged with cars. Some streets were closed for car free parties, so there were a lot of angry drivers, but if you were not in a car it was a lot of fun.
I pedalled down to Trinity Bellwoods Park, where it was purported that there would be a lot of heavy car free action.
and almost got squished in the process, I never saw so many cars. But, in parking spaces on Queen Street, lots of stuff to see. This car is in fact a petition:
with a message that nobody could disagree with.
the usual suspects were there;
along with this minimalist but effective message. Lots to learn on ::World Car Free Day

I would like to see the US have one complete day where no one rides a vehicle.
If they really want to make it work for 2008, they should align it with Nuit Blanche and Word on The Street all at once. Nuit Blanche practically shut down the city to car traffic on its own!
