Royal Caribbean Fueling Up With Biodiesel

In a move that should help lighten the large amount of sulfur pollutants emitted from their cruise ships, Royal Caribbean Cruises has signed up to purchase a boatload (couldn't resist) of biodiesel from Imperium Renewables. For 2007, Royal Caribbean will buy a minimum of 15 million gallons, and for the four years after a minimum of 18 million gallons. Imperium believes this purchase to be "the single-largest long-term biodiesel sales contract to an end user in the US." Here's to making the high seas a little cleaner - and may the other cruise companies follow suit or be forced to walk the plank! ::Via Green Car Congress

Ocean-going vessels use a hell of a lot of fuel. I expect 15 million will still make a lowish B%.

Those large engine are made to burn tar, asphalt and bunker oil.

why buy transformed biodiesel when you can simply burn used veggie oil/ fat straight from McDonald's fryers including potato bits and onion rings

Well 15 million is a small dent but at least its a start and hopefully will put some pressure on the other large cruisers to get in line.

now if they sold food on cruise ships instead of all inclusive they would've been burning this stuff years ago to make people hungry from the popcorn and french fry smell.

oh dear - so how much water will be needed to grow the crops to make it? where will this be coming from and what will the impact of this water for irrigation be on the environment.....

Something tells me that Biodiesel is a hypocritical lemon......

jump to top oh dear says:

No lemon. Most bio is made with waste veg oil. All you do is add some stuff to make it more combustible.

I think this is a wonderful idea....
bc it would make this global warming go down....
and maybe the world wont come to an end.....
this is a very good idea and we need that for cars bc if we keep using regular gas then the world is *DOOMED*
