"Paris Hilton Goes Green" According to the PR Folks

by Kara DiCamillo, Newport, Rhode Island on 08. 3.07
Culture & Celebrity

paris%20hilton.jpg Paris Hilton and the word "green" in the same sentence? Ha! (snort!) Hollywood.com reported yesterday that the clinker really made Paris think about her lifestyle. Yes that's right: she's "going green" and encouraging her fans to do the same. So does this mean that Paris has audited her ecological footprint? Not quite. She's traded in her Range Rover SUV in favor of a Ford hybrid car. But one thing we should probably mention is that this was after she was given a free model by the car's manufacturers. Paris was noted as saying, "Driving hybrid cars is the new way to go. Anyone can do it, no matter how old." (Whatever the bleep that means.) You know we encourage green going mainstream, but we have to say we're not impressed by the PR stunt, honey. Via & Photo Credit ::Hollywood.com

I think I'm going to puke........

...green,of course.

Greenwashing is growing, I'm not sure if environmentalism is.

wow, Paris even makes the news on treehugger, she is not worth reporting about ever.

jump to top alex says:

What a headline.

Rich, useless socialite gets a free car...and it's a hybrid!

Seriously, what's the message here? If reducing your carbon footprint comes with no personal cost, even rich socialites will consent to it?

Any bets on whether she keeps the hybrid after it stops getting her media exposure?

jump to top Crosius says:

She is my favorite, most fascinating person EVER!

jump to top Willy Bio says:

I think she isn't great. I think she use the green care for publicity. We musn´t believe in these people. ´They don´t care in anything about enviroment.
Great site, when in spanish?
Greetings

This sounds like pure public relations bullshit. It gets her in the news.It puts a positive spin on her image.

After the drunk/suspended drivers license debacle. She would do anything to get a positive spin.IT IS ALL PR.

There IS one relevant point, which is important, is that small cars (and small things in general) are percieved as being cuter than SUVs, and naturally attract a segment of the female market that is comfortable with being perceived as girlish.

Finding a stylish person as a spokesperson is definitely be a better way to popularize small cars than some Quaker Oat-looking guy coming out and saying "Thrift be Godly!"

There's only so much substance people are willing to have shoved on then.

jump to top rob says:

what if she really did change her mind on some things while locked down? I think it's better she say this than keep driving her SUVs

jump to top Stever says:

I absolutely adore Paris!

That girl can be the ideal spokes person for this worthwile cause.

jump to top Betty Manderling says:

What I want to know if why on earth Ford is giving Paris HIlton a car? If there is anyone on the planet that can afford to buy a hybrid... IT'S PARIS HILTON!

Seriously, "Driving hybrid cars is the new way to go. Anyone can do it, no matter how old." I Can't because I can't afford one!!!

jump to top Brian says:

Instead of wasting space on this person.Do a thing on living with ed.At least you know he does not do it for the press/pr/or image enhancement.

jump to top Anonymous says:

Maybe Paris' stay in jail is making her search further for a fan base.

How much you wanna bet that the green car is the end of her green campaign? Pretty sure she won't give up buying her imported handbags and clothing even though the amount of fuel to transport that cargo is a big carbon contributor.

jump to top Anonymous says:

Let's do one of your TH polls: If you were given a Ford hybrid, would you drive a hybrid vehicle to be environmentally friendly? Hey, it's easy to be green with it's given to you on a platter.

What I really want to know is if Paris can get convicted on a drunken driving misdemeanor or worse with a hybrid? :-)

Maybe buy some carbon credits in exchange for a more lenient sentence? :-)

It's amazing how many have responded to this post.

What a waste of time. Go comment on a treehugger story that actually *matters*.

jump to top Frank says:

Paris' MoJo has expired. Green resurrection not possible. On to the next wayward heiress vixen in self destruct mode.

jump to top JL says:

Poor little bimbo seeks attention. That should be the headline. She should leave the public eye for a minimum of 7 years.Perhaps quietly doing charity work.

jump to top Anonymous says:

So why doesnt the stupid girl take some of daddy's money she's been so lavishly spending and put it towards a "green" organization. Highly unlickly. This bimbo doesnt deserve a spot on a serious website. PR stunt or not, the environment doesnt need people like that around, and neither does my stomach.

With the money she has.She can afford to pay for it.

- Save the fact that this vehicle costs us regular folks between 25 - 50 grand But at least we can all afford one like Paris....Oh wait hers was free.

I guess that makes sense i mean she really wants it, and like totally deserves it.

I bet you it will be much easier for her to drive it when she's wasted.
