It’s a phenomena, or maybe that should be pheromone, that just won’t go away. Earlier this year we had the media interest in ‘ecosexuals’, which we figured was a bit of a beat-up ‘coz as we observed on one or two occasions the green dating thing has been around for decades. But just when you thought attention had moved onto other things it’s back. New Consumer report that a UK men’s magazine, by the grand name of Nuts (warning: do not click this link in an open plan office) has apparently surveyed 1,500 women online to discover that the top ‘turn on’ women find attractive in men is 'caring about the environment’. The magazines relation expert figures that women equate eco awareness with a man who isn't selfish. 'There's something sexy about a man who recycles, it shows that he cares about more than just himself and shows he has a sensitive side and thinks about the future,' she says. New Consumer go on to note that a YouGov survey reported London men were four times less likely than women to be concerned about the environment. Which is backed up in the US by research that Kira Gould and Lance Hosey writing on Grist observed. They cited studies that show women are up to 15% more likely than men to rate the environment a high priority, and they make up 2/3rds of voters who cast their ballots around environmental issues. As we continue to say, Green is Sexy. But it seems only half the population is getting the message.

Maybe the other half need to take a squiz at our guide - ::How to Green Your Sex Life.

Get the girl? I can guarantee you that women will see through any put-on interest about environmentalism for what it is. You'd think womens' greater interest in this subject would be cause for praise; instead it's just another ploy to try and 'get the girl.'

Maybe I should go live in Britain. :-)

Naah. It's all those statistics I blog that's turning them off, even though the rest of the world finds great use for them with the occasional 400+ hit days in the few weeks I've had the blog opened to the public.

Or maybe it's my excessive CO2 output from the 2000+ miles I run a year that turns them off. Would be hypocritical of me to do that and be enviro except for I don't have a car and log more miles on feet walking and running than any other means of transportation except the rare air flight.

Neat article, though. Enjoyed it.

Alternatively, one could ask why the guys don't get it.

Studies have shown that cultures who value and protect its female members through systemic laws/practices, etc., are 1) more peaceful, 2) more environmentally aware/proactive, and 3) more egalitarian towards various all segments than male-dominated patriarcal societies who do not protect women and offer them equal access to shelter/healthcare/education/economic stability/political power. When societies allow rape and domestic violence; deny females access to education, economic stability, birth control/reproductive healthcare, and political power, it is a sign of an underlying mentatlity that values dominance and control rather than the well being of all members of the society.
As a tradionally dominated sector of society, I think we women instictively realize this. When a man beleives the earth is his to do with as he wishes and that it is hi s"right" to dominate and controll it, that attitude and beleif carries over to ALL other relationships in his life, especially to those involving people he views as "lesser" or "subordinate" to his place such as wife and children.

I knew NONE of this academically 14 years ago when I married my Ecosexual. But I knew instinctively he was kind and caring and I loved that he would actually STOP the car to pick up stuff or finish our walk carrying someone else's trash.

Yep, after 14 years Ecosexual is SEXY!

Um, shocks I guess I was wrong. But I kinda thought with all that make-up and other vain stuff that guys just were less disruptive to the world.

But let me be fair, most guys like HUGE cars, and BIG power tools. So I guess they are vain too.

Well I'm for the environment, and I don't see a lot of girls liking me. I'm probably reducing so much, that I'm nearly invisible. Oh, well jezz guess that takes the wind out of the sails.
