Coal Executive Attacks Global Warming With His Miners Trapped Below

by Lloyd Alter, Toronto on 08. 8.07
Business & Politics (news)

robertmurray.jpgWe have called Robert Murray of Murray Energy a jerk before here and here, but now we can add "insensitive and heartless fool" to our description. Six of his miners are trapped underground after an accident and he holds a press conference; and attacks global warming and restrictions on coal mining.

"Without coal to manufacture our electricity, our products will not compete in the global marketplace against foreign countries...and people on fixed incomes will not be able to pay their electric bills," Murray forcefully declared in the press conference, as broadcast by CNN. "And every one of these global warming bills that has been introduced in Congress to date eliminates the coal industry and will increase your electric rates four to five-fold."

We are certain that gave great comfort and solace to the families of the six. ::Raw Story, and ::Salt Lake City Tribune

Though I found Mr. Murray's comments inappropriate and ill-timed, the sad truth is we are heavily dependent on coal for our electrical energy needs, perhaps almost more than we are dependent on foreign oil. If you find these comments insulting, good. Let's find more alternatives to fossil fuels that would replace the dependencies we have now.

He really made an A$$ of himself there using the camra time to the coal industry advantage.

Not to make light of the miners situation but ya know he kinda looks like Boss Hog. :-)

Has the same mentality too I guess, money for me and I don't care how I get it.

The blame can also be placed on the shoulders of the reporter who hijacked the press conference by injecting politics into the issue of trapped miners.

Agree - hope he insults more to upset more people... we need to get off the stuff ASAP. CA is leading the way to switch and other states ought to be listening. Give the public a choice and you may be surprised how they'd be willing to pay a premium to get something of value!

I do not avocate violence on an idiot. Becuase an idiot can learn something.

His mines didn't pass the safety checks quite a bit he put profits before safety now six of his miners are paying fo it with their lives.

Will the bureau of mine safety do anything to this man? More than likely not.
If they fine him he will just pass the buck on to the prices of his coal.
If they shut that mine down there are others he will just move one to other areas.
they wouldn't dare shut his business down due to Congress and the house.
So what is left to do to him to make him learn safety first foremost and always?
Have a judge make him a miner in his own most dangerous mines.
This type of education would be priceless.

Creating A Carbon Economy

We have developed systems to make carbon sequestration profitable,
overcoming the main objection to it by creating a new carbon economy
instead of treating it as a waste.

The systems are under Patents Pending, CN 8283. An inexpensive book is
available on our website.. You can read and see all about it at our
