Survey: Is Hating Coal Giving Comfort To the Enemy?
by Lloyd Alter, Toronto on 07. 3.07
According to John's post, coal exec Robert Murray is stomping his little feet and won't play with his Caterpillar monster trucks and is calling anybody who wants to limit coal production "UnAmerican." On the other hand, David Roberts of Grist calls coal "the enemy of the human race" and invites Robert Murray to kiss his ass. On the third hand, GE's dancing lumps sing "I'm clean! I'm clean!"

Coal is one of those necessary evils.Live with it.My cabin home below usees wood to heat. And is not in use when i am not present.
The portion below is from another one of my posts.
If you would like to see a real change.Have the government start a radical program.Lets call it solar across America.Start a program that creates no interest loans for grid connected homes. For the purchase of solar panels and equipment. With this kicking power back into the system. How much power would that create? Now add in windmills across the America.More power creation from a renewable source.I can Imagen seeing the world much cleaner. If people/government were serious. We would more than likely be rid of most power generation needs.
My off grid cabin home uses both of these technologies.Plus a third water power. The stream power's a small dam.A small canal is dug into my land.It diverts into a pond. Then Back into the river. After creating power for my needs. When i called the power company to get power to my land.I almost had a heart attack.13 thousand dollars to run a wire.My setup cost 12 thousand. As a last resort.I have a small generator just in case.
Politicians are like diapers. They need to be changed frequently. They do not represent the average person. However they do represent big interest with lots of money for their war chests.Anybody who spend millions/billions on a campaign for a job that pays so little in relation is suspect.
Global Resource Corporation just announced they have developed a coal gasification process that essentially releases no greenhouse gases when converting the coal to other forms of cleaner burning fuels, methane and hydrogen.

Doug,
Those fuels are still coal origined CO2 that's being released, even if it is no longer coal at that point.
Thanks Sam, I wasn't aware that natural gas and hydrogen produce as many carbon emissions and mercury as coal. Next time get a little more informed on the subject.
