Source Toothbrush
by Matthew Sparkes, London, UK on 07. 7.07
The Source toothbrush helps to cut waste by using a reusable handle made of wood fiber, blended with a plastic derived from Nebraska maize. Into this you can put disposable heads, which cuts down on 4/5ths of waste when you replace it, compared to throwing away a traditional toothbrush.
You can buy them on Radius' website for $7.95, and replacable heads are $6.95. However, there are other green toothbrushes that are cheaper, such as the Preserve which costs $13 for 4. The other benefit of the Preserve is that you can send it back to the makers and they will recycle it for you. ::Radius

I use a brush called toob for hiking. It's similar in form (replaceable head) but also has a refillable toothpaste tube in the handle. It opens on both sides, good for about a week's worth of brushing.
Anyone know why Radius packages toothbrushes in pvc...anyone?
not only does recycline make a better toothbrush, it's makes other great stuff for around the house like plastic cups, plates and utensils. All of it is made from recycled plastic and is reusable and/or recyclable.
Hello-
I'm contacting you about our official Alternative Earth Launch Party in Las Vegas during the three largest apparel shows in the country (Magic, Project and Pool). Alternative is a brand of tees and headwear that has gotten a good bit of press recently (InTouch, Today Show, treehugger.com etc) and is an official sponsor of “S(eco)nd”, the organic and eco-friendly fashion area of the Pool Tradeshow. We are inviting our VIP customers who are interested in our new eco-friendly line of tees to the party we are hosting at the Wynn Hotel. We'd like to have gift bags for the first 150 clients (they will range from magazine editors, wholesalers, boutique owners to large retailers like Urban Outfitters) to be able to take home and try out some eco-friendly products. We are wondering if you would be interested in promoting one of your products (a sample size since people will have to fly back with these items) by sending us 150 for inclusion? If you have a catalog or anything else that you would like to accompany with the product, you may include it. The event is Aug. 28th, so I would need to know soon. Thanks! www.alternativeearth.com

I know this is a year late but I just wanted to mention that Radius does not package its products in PVC anymore. Instead we package it in SmartCyle packaging which is made of 50% recycled soda bottles (recycled PET) and 50% PET. The reason we moved to the blister packaging in general was to reduce the fuel and resource waste that came from producing heavier plastic packaging like that produced by our competitors. Subsequently, we moved to Smartcyle as soon as we could viably do so.
In addition, all of Radius' toothbrushes are #5 recyclable, the exact same as Recycline's products. We always recycle our rejects and scrap materials in-house and are able to control our resources usage overall since we manufacture our own products. Unfortunately, most town and city recycling programs do not provide recycling options for plastic #5. In addition, the head of ALL toothbrushes are not recyclable, due to the staples used to keep the bristles intact, andmust be clipped prior to re-grind. We will happily receive the product back from consumers to regrind it along with our own recycled products but to be completely honest, the amount of fuel consumed and paper wasted in shipping the product back is far and beyond worse for the environment than throwing the product away. Radius Original and Scuba products last 3 times as long as a normal toothbrush and the Source wastes almost no plastic since you just throw away the head. Rather than creating more resource consumption through recycling, why not promote the mission of re-use? Why promote the action of shipping away in order to be recycled rather keeping and re-using as much as physically possible?
To come full circle, Smartcycle was another step in the right direction towards improving our product overall. We are always open to any ideas or feedback anyone may have so please feel free to contact us if you want to chat or provide suggestions. I appreciate your input and am happy we were able to change the packaging for the better!
