On Every Corner: David Suzuki for Powerwise

I can think of a few global warming deniers at the National Post who must hate to drive across town right now; every billboard in the city has David Suzuki levitating a CFL and encouraging us to go to Powerwise.ca. It is a website set up by our desperate provincial government that has nukes closed for repair, coal fired plants that it has promised to close, and crumbling transmission infrastructure. When all else fails, drag out David and get him to convince us to turn out the lights. There are some good ideas in the energy conservation tips, and the silly powerWISE house gimmick (of course, a suburban ranch on a hundred foot lot) is fun, but ultimately a website is not going to compensate for years of mismanagement and neglect. We need courageous changes to planning and building regulations and real incentives for conservation, not billboards of David on every corner. ::PowerWISE

All conservation is good. If it takes a well Know Canadian personality and free CFL's (which Ontario Hydro offers from time to time) then so be it.
I was out driving the Gaspésie region of Québec these last two days (eastern tip of Québec, surrounded by water)
I saw hundreds of wind mills !!!
The first bunch in Murdocville, then in Cap Chat and in Matana. You can see them building new ones.
They are beautiful.

Out on the Gaspee they're also experimenting with horizontal turbans. They're gigantic! I don't think it spoils the view much at all, because you're aware of the good they're doing.
When I was up there last summer we also saw belugas and grey whales frolicking. Gaspee people are wonderful.
The damage to pristine vistas by windmills in the long run will be minimal, because not all pristine areas are good for wind, and environmentally-aware people are aware of the benefits.
(sorry - vertical turbines - my bad!)
Are these the same bulbs that contaminate your room with mercury if they break?
Mr Suzuki is telling me to change my lightbulbs to those curly ones that don't work good outside here when its 30 below. But why don't he cause some stink when those new plasma and dlp TV's burn from 300-600 watts each. your old 32" TV used only 100-130 watts. How many millions of those have been sold and nobody says BOO Go to CNET and check out the big screens. Everythings double the power. Complain in the right direction and I might listen to you treehuggers...
