Girl in Turkey Organizes Fight to Stop Bird Flu and Save Swallows at Same Time!

When bird flu took the life of 3 of the other girls in her village in Turkey, Naz Belkaya, one of Action for Nature’s Young Eco-Heroes was motivated by the tragedy to help educate her community about both the bird flu and the environment.. Understanding the link between migrating birds, poultry, and humans, she set about to educate people about protecting the swallows and recognizing the symptoms of bird flu quickly. Named after one of the young girls who died, the Fatma Ozcan Swallow Project has children involved monitoring nesting activity in their area. And Naz herself has been organizing seminars, inviting speakers to talk with people about the issue of bird flu, and talking to local officials and physicians in her quest to educate people about protecting the environment and avoiding bird flu. Featured on the UN’s youth action report, she’s heading in the right direction and making a difference one nesting site and one person at a time.

Establishing honour to all people of different age who take action and make a difference to protect our nature around the world is important. Not only children, but also include we adults.adults should set ourselves as eco-model to our children, not only let teenager as eco-model to educate adults. It is really a pity.
This a great idea. It's so difficult to get grown-ups to see things straight. In Houston and Dallas there have been mass bat exterminations because unavoidable incidents, which will only make the public health problem worse. Spraying never really works either. What we have to do is prevent the natural systems from becoming too disturbed, it's then when they lash out with these extreme outbreaks. We need to preserve wetlands, natural predator habitat, and raise public awareness. Maybe grownups will listen to kids, because they don't listen to other grownups.
