Al Gore Proposes A Solution
by John Laumer, Philadelphia on 07. 1.07
Many of us have heard the grumbling about "Inconvenient Truth," that it well outlines the problem with Climate Change in highly consumable style, but proposes nothing in the way of a solution. Mr Gore has just published an extensive op. ed. piece in the New York Times. In the last half, he outlines the 'only approach that will work.' Highlights of the solution, from Moving Beyond Kyoto, are below the fold.
"...our next president must immediately focus on quickly concluding a new and even tougher climate change pact. We should aim to complete this global treaty by the end of 2009 — and not wait until 2012 as currently planned."
The focus of the new pact should be to cut "... global warming pollution by 90 percent in developed countries and by more than half worldwide in time for the next generation to inherit a healthy Earth."
"A new treaty will still have differentiated commitments, of course; countries will be asked to meet different requirements based upon their historical share or contribution to the problem and their relative ability to carry the burden of change. This precedent is well established in international law, and there is no other way to do it."

Politicking as usual, and a lot of hot air.
$50billion in ARM's resets in the fall, and then another $65billion six months later. Hedge funds and lending are coming down (ie NetBank), the housing market is shorting out, and oil prices are expected to rise, as inflation here heats up. Our current GDP and growth is slower than almost all major nations, save for Zimbabwe.
With all that in mind, how is any politician going to get a more extreme ecological mandate passed, when the added costs will bring a further strain on our economy? Its proposterous. We're a hair's breath from a recession. He's only riding the Moore bandwagon, trying to tip political scales with propaganda, to counter the religious right's regrettable influence.
We're at the start of the green movement - not the end. Things will take time, and work up slowly - that's how us humans work, not changing on a dime but over several generations. We're so used to spoiled-child syndrome here, of wanting the most, and demanding it immediately. We'll make it in little strides, we've already changed the minds of two generations about our environmental choices. Dire predictions of doom and gloom (which we all know never come), are only politics, based on that reliable old political device: fear.
I will not even mention Al gore in this.If you would like to see a real change.Have the government start a radical program.Lets call it solar across America.Start a program that creates no interest loans for grid connected homes. For the purchase of solar panels and equipment. With this kicking power back into the system. How much power would that create? Now add in windmills across the America.More power creation from a renewable source.I can Imagen seeing the world much cleaner. If people/government were serious. We would more than likely be rid of most power generation needs.
My off grid cabin home uses both of these technologies.Plus a third water power. The stream power's a small dam.A small canal is dug into my land.It diverts into a pond. Then Back into the river. After creating power for my needs. When i called the power company to get power to my land.I almost had a heart attack.13 thousand dollars to run a wire.My setup cost 12 thousand. As a last resort.I have a small generator just in case.
Politicians are like diapers. They need to be changed frequently. They do not represent the average person. However they do represent big interest with lots of money for their war chests.
I do not like specific positions Al has taken. But other i do.Anybody who spend millions on a campaign for a job that pays so little in relation is suspect.
