Urban Outfitters Recycles Looks

Urban Outfitters

Urban Outfitters may not be a megabox brand, but we've never regarded it as solidly indie as the mostly imported togs it hawks take strains to appear.

Still, we were pleased to discover that UO—as its teenage and post-adolescent clientèle call it—has a new, limited-edition line of clothing and accessories made from vintage, deadstock, and preloved materials. They're even made in the United States, which is another definite plus. :: Urban Outfitters

Um, isn't the CEO of Urban Outfitters a right-wing nutjob who gave generously to Rick "global-warming-does-not-exist" Santorum's campaign and continues to donate generously to various anti-gay and anti-abortion groups.

UO is as bad as Walmart, in my opinion.

what does "togs it hawks take strains to appear" mean?

confused

Not only does UO's CEO contribute to far-right-wing causes; the company also has a long history of plagiarizing the work of independent designers.

If you like their styles, I recommend looking through the store for ideas - then buying similar items elsewhere or making them for yourself.

The president of Urban Outfitters, Richard Hayne, has donated over $10,000 to Rick Santorum. Santorum has said, "If the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual (gay) sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery. You have the right to anything." Don't reward Urban Outfitters for funding this bigot.

jump to top Jen says:

UO is the bomb! So what if he has beliefs different from yours and decides to donate his money to those causes. What's with people dogging on people who have right wing beliefs, Lefties are always complaining...
UO brings in other brands to the store, it's not UO that comes up with the clothing ideas they just sell what other brands are making. So its the other companies that are stealin the ideas and UO is simply selling those brands.

Thank you, Joe.
Not everyone who wants to go green is a bleeding-heart liberal, registered republicans like myself are allowed, too.
Give the man the benefit of the doubt; if green clothing can be fashionable and cute, then I don't care who it comes from.

jump to top LK says:

You give them your money.....your money goes up the food chain and is then donated to causes you don't agree with.

If you agree with where his money goes - then by all means give him more.

As someone who is pro-gay-marriage but (obviously) anti-adultery and anti-incest...

Urban Outfitters will never get another dime from me. I much prefer to spend my money at places that share my world-view.

its interesting the the CEO is a right wing nutjob, when UO's target market is young liberal, enviromental types. Just take a look at some of tees sold there, club soda not seals, down on war, stuff like that.

jump to top sophie says:

yes, it is too bad that so many young people flock to Urban Outfitters and allow it's crazy owners to fund really right wing groups. Your money is yours.... vote when you spend it, for the kind of world that you believe in! Peace!

jump to top Randi says:

Its really sad that this man is tricking young people into buying these shirts. Yes, they have the choice to buy them or not and they have the freedom to know who the CEO is and what he does with his money, but for Richard Hayne to knowingly be selling these anti-war and save the animals shirts while thinking the exact opposite is just a horribly hypocritical thing to do, although it is a smart way to make money because peace and "going green" is trendy these days. My advice is, if you really can't live without the store, go ahead and shop there, just, if you really care, don't buy those shirts because you're just being fooled.

jump to top Maddie says:

I'm so sick of you self-righteous liberals making the rest of us look like a bunch of hippie freaks. yes, the owner contributes money to republicans, but anyone who ends up making a large amount of cash will do that — republicans let you keep your money.

try to look at things from with a broader world-view than "republican = bad, democrat = good"

and leave the paper maché puppets home next time you want to make a point in public. maybe the reason we never win an election is that you people keep diluting the message by acting like a bunch of screaming hippie jackasses.

BE CLEAN FOR GENE!
