TreeHugger Radio: Listen to the Bookkeeper
by Team Treehugger, Worldwide

Mathis Wackernagel is the executive director of The Global Footprint Network, an organization that acts like the bookkeeper for the planet’s ecological bounty. Each year, the group calculates the exact day when we have exhausted what the Earth can sustainably offer up for that year. It’s called World Overshoot Day, and last year it came in October (see graphic after the jump). In this extended interview, TreeHugger correspondent Meaghan O’Neill plumbs Mathis’ thoughts on how we can “live satisfying lives within the means of Earth's ecological capacity.” It’s a bit longer than usual, but hang in there. It’s always smart to listen to your bookkeeper. Subscribe to TreeHugger Radio on iTunes or listen/right click to download. ::TreeHugger Radio

i don't have much money as on disablity, and live in miami florida but would like to know things i can do to help the community . thanks
this is good and ace
oh yeah, good water is like gold.
I work on sociologic theory of/& policy but do engineering environmental theory projects to balance things out. I have a concept called "project green bank" putting natural combustibles [wood chips, hay, brush, agri... ] in RAIN WATER catching trenches, that grow tree hedges, and are paraleled by vapor barriors -plastic burried with the fill/trench spoil ...soil compacted to preserve and prevent weed growth...
I'm living in baja california now, there's hardly any water-a tuck load costs about $40. and isn't drunk... for often unexplained [untranslated] reasons. there are very few trees [& shade] but small fires of brush [piles] and even "unnotised" wild fires every day!, this natural mulch could be preserved in under ground/trench "root beds" that grow desireable flora and CATCH RAIN RUNOFF!.
also building geology apropriate under ground tanks or sisterns to catch flood water needs to be investigated.
also on "proj. green bank" plant pathogens -diseases being neutralized by "good funus" and constant moisture [vapor barrior] environments needs to be systematically investigated,
