The Heat Is On - A 'Who's Who' On Climate Position

Wouldn't it be great to have a single website that profiles every US presidential candidate's take on Climate Change? Good news -- there is one, provided by the League of Conservation Voters. "The goal of The Heat Is On is to raise the debate on global warming and make it a priority issue during the presidential primaries." In fact, LCV has turned up the heat in several ways. "We will educate and organize concerned citizens in early caucus and primary states. With organizers in each state, we will recruit hundreds of volunteers to place global warming at the forefront of the political debate...Working with concerned political donors, we will elevate global warming in the "wealth primary." We will coordinate a network of hundreds of political donors who believe global warming is a top priority...We will educate and challenge the media to make this a top political issue, and sure that global warming is a central part of candidate stories, debates and interviews." And so on. Leaving for a moment the rather tedious and narrow process of US elections, let's expand the dream to a global scale. Wouldn't it be nice if there were a globally based organization for businesses that cared about sustainable development, that engaged with climate change? There is just such an organization and it's called the World Business Council for Sustainable Developement, or "WBCSD." The WBCSD has a website with a membership roster and recently has started guest posting on TreeHugger. Here's their first one, dealing with climate change, of course.

If only we could do this for major fields of interest and social issues.

This is a great idea, and I agree that making more websites like this one (or maybe a master site for all issues and views) would make casting an informed vote much easier. I just wish this site was more user-friendly.

It's nice to have everything in one place to see the view of the politicians but global warming absolutely should not be at the forefront. It is a highly politicized alarmist issue that has no immediate bearing on any of our lives. We should be concerned about many other things, mainly education, which, in America, is a joke. We spend our time teaching our children propaganda and alarmist issues to appease the unintelligent that fall for everything they are told, such as global warming, instead of focusing on real knowledge and understanding multi-faceted points of view.

I agree that to a certain extend with the previous comment that "global warming should not be at the forefront". There are other issues of equal importance that pose similar challenges and dangers to humanity - such as ecosystems or water.

However, global environmental challenges are interrelated, and tackling global warming will force us as society to also deal with other issues. And: Global warming is currently the most serious thread, and it therefore not only requires us to act quickly, but also perhaps to change our viewpoint on environmental (and social) issues altogether.

I am glad to see that business seems to have understood the challenges we're facing, and I've read with great interest the three climate change publications that the WBCSD has published. Especially the Policy Directions paper is interesting - it show that business is actually far ahead of governments in its thinking. And given the influence that business can exert on governments, it gives me hope that we will move forward before it's too late.

We DON'T HAVE GLOBAL WARMING - - -
We Have SOLAR WARMING.

All the planets in the solar system are warming.

Yes, stop pollution.
Yes, cut down on emissions.
Yes, move toward green energy.

No, don't fall for propaganda that will lead to PERSONAL REGULATION.

Note: they're not saying that corporations are polluting.
They're saying it's the individuals responsiblity.
