Survey: Do you go to Farmers' Markets?
by Lloyd Alter, Toronto on 06.11.07
Farmers markets are appearing everywhere this year; where we live, last year there were two near us; this year there are five new ones. Last year there were produce jockeys who would buy vegetables at the big wholesale food terminal, dress up in overalls and set up a stand; this year the farmers have set up a certification system to ensure that purchasers are getting real farm fresh food. The books Plenty and Animal,Vegetable, Miracle have encouraged many to take up local food. What are you doing?

Hmm so what do I select if I get like 1/3 to a 1/5 of my veggies at farmers market? Maybe there should be an entry like: "I get my veggies from the farmers market when possible and make do with the sad specimens from the supermarket the rest of the time"
The answers seem to be a little extreme. I would love a "I get some things from my farmers' market, and the rest from my Grocery Store"
Anyways, its great to see so many people love their farmers' markets.
My local so-called famers market, has all of two veggie stalls, one is all organic, the other isn't, and neither are selling produce that is in any way local (i.e. not even from the same continent). I've found that I get a better range of relatively local and/or organic fruit and veg from Tesco and Dunnes Stores (my two local supermarkets) than I get from the market.
The market does however have a range of local and organic meat, but most of it comes in sausage form ... which while being very tasty, aren't the healthiest option for frequent consumption!
I'm with Eric. What a poorly designed survey!
Ya, I need an "As much as I can (but thats not a lot)"
Why isn't there a button for "I grow most of my own food"?
