I dream of an elecric lawnmower, having a gigantic 5 HP Briggs and Stratton monster. Of course, the best thing would be a push mower. All electric mowers should be sold bundled with a push mower, which can be used as an alternative during periods of high electric costs!
..or bundled with a cute little goat!
I just bought a Black & Decker Lawn Electric Mulching Mower, Flip-Handle #MM675, after getting fed up with the gas mower. I love how quiet it is, along with the fact that I don't need to get a tune-up every year, or worry about gas, oil, etc. They're super-safe, too - let go of the handle, and they instantly turn off. $219 now, but I got mine for $199 - just keep watching it.
Reel (push) mowers are great in concept, but I used one here & there, and they just didn't seem to cut the grass. Maybe a new one would've - the ones I used were pretty beat up.
I agree somewhat, however, an electric mower is way better than a SOx, NOx, COx spewer.
Better yet, hook it up to solar power! I've had a black&decker electric and am excited to hook it up to my new solar.

I used a push reel mower for years, they are great when used on an appropriately sized yard. The drawback is if you let the lawn go a bit too long between mowings you pay for it, but other than that no maintenance other than a once a year blade sharpening.
Goats I'm not a big fan of, bad memories of drinking goats milk as a kid - YUCK! :)
