Polysilicon is the essential raw material for solar panels, and prices have doubled in recent years, creating big problems for solar panel makers.
That makes this new panel from Soliant very interesting. It has integrated tracking built in to the panel. Power from a solar panel usually drops off significantly as the sun moves away from perpendicular, and tracking mechanisms are expensive. Here, inexpensive optics focus more light onto less area of solar cells, reducing the requirement for expensive photovoltaic materials by 88%. Each row is a mirrored trough with a narrow strip of photovoltaic on the bottom.
